Social networking sites: Facebook and Small World
Talya is currently a senior at Parsons in the Design and Management program. After she graduates she intends to go in the field of Brand Management. The social networks she is engaged in are facebook and small world. She does not have a personal website. She is not familiar with using social networking to gain employment, however she has sent out emails in order to get internships.
When I asked her if she ever blocks personal information her response was that is rarely does. However if she has a intimate photo with her boyfriend she untags that because she thinks it’s an invasion of privacy. She does not set security setting on her facebook profile except for people she is not very close with.
She never uses facebook to get new business contacts, she is not aware of that concept. She doesn’t plan on promoting herself online to get job opportunities.
She has been on facebook for three years and she logs in approximately three times a week. She uses facebook to communicate with her friends. She says that she primarily uses facebook to keep up with the lives of people she does not see often. She says that “ I don’t really communicate with my very close friends through face, I communicate with them through hotmail. On face I communicate with people I do not see you often, people who I would not usually call on the phone, but know from places.”
She has about 500 friends on facebook. She updates her profile twice a year. She belongs in the Obama group in facebook.
